- The album liner notes always have credits made out to Zoe and Suzanne, his daughter and wife, along with his staff, management and agents. With scores made for movies, one wonders when they will realise it is ultimately the audience that receives such works, and we are that audience. Acknowledgement of "The Fan(s)" would be nice.
- Hans now is licenced to drive his Aston Martin.
- Jake Zimmer (Hans' new baby boy) was referred to in the liner notes to As Good As It Gets - we share the same birthday!
- 'Zimmer', is translated from the German as 'room'.
- Zimmerite, Alicia (LK Queen), writes that 'Hans Florian Zimmer' translated, means "Gracious gift of God flowering room".
- He is a relatively young composer starting his 40s, and celebrates his birthday on September 12th.
- His choice of beverage does not include beer, lol.
- The conductor of The Berlin Symphonic Orchestra is Hans E. Zimmer; Hans F. Zimmer is our guy!
- Hans (and all of Media Ventures) uses Yamaha music equipment, Hi-Fi, and Apple Macintosh computers, much like I do.
- Zimmer was at one time, scheduled to score Joel Schumacher's The Client, which ended up with a nice Howard Shore piece; 1492, nice Vangelis release.
- He passionately wanted to score Clint Eastwood's The Unforgiven (being a western), but soon realised that Lennie Niehaus exclusively scores for Eastwood; Hans later got to play Western on Broken Arrow.
- He reckons Days of Thunder ain't that flash! lol, we all have our faves...
- Steven Spielberg absolutely LOVES Crimson Tide, and knows the CD inside out (unfortunately, John Williams has an exclusive pact).
- Ennio Moriconne's The Mission is one of his faves, and happens to be the first score I purchased.
- Favoured by and according to Jeff Rona, Fools Of Fortune is a fave of Hans as well.
- He stated that his BEST score is Two Deaths.
- His influences include Nine Inch Nails, which is evident on The Fan.
- Hans along with Shirley Walker actually 'ghosted' on the score to White Fang (no soundtrack release), which was credited to subsequent composer Basil Poledouris.
- He prefers to score a quota of only one movie a year for the Scott Brothers.
- Nick Glennie-Smith has branched out on his own for now - he is currently working out of Virginia.
- John Van Tongeren now works out his own Blue Room Studios.
- Works that Hans is reported to have helped out on include:
- Doctor Who 12" track - Doctor In Distress.
- Evelyn Thomas - High Energy
- Miquel Brown - Close To Perfection
- Shriekback - Oil & Gold
- The Damned - Best Of The Damned
- Zaine Griff - Ashes & Diamonds
- Sally Oldfield - Easy
- SPK (composer Graeme Revell's old band) - Machine-Age Voo Doo
- The non-US pressing of Cool Runnings has one extra reggae track.
- At 12.57 minutes into Track 12 on The Fan, there seems to be a lil humourous insert "Do you want cheesecake?" (or something of the sort). Maybe a lil joke by Slamm.
- There is a radio promo for Broken Arrow which consists of 'Deakin's Theme' (bass notes).
- A score fan writes that Babylon 5 by Christopher Franke sounds a bit like The Rock! (Hans is a friend of Chris'.)
- The 'You're So Cool' theme from True Romance has a very strong resemblance to George Lipton's score for Badlands.
- Hans got writing credit IN White Squall for studio political reasons. His production is still rather sublime.
- The trumpet performance in White Squall was recorded in England with Derek Watkins, who played on several Beatles songs.
- The voices on the riff to 'Roll Tide' from Crimson Tide are missing from the CD version - loses the lyrical aspect.
- Paperhouse is probably the only release to be 'retracked' - the US version consisting of 6 tracks, and crediting Stanley Myers as co-composer, and the European verison consisting of 2 tracks.
- Regarding Henry may well be the ONLY release to include more than what was contained in the movie!
- There is the elusive pressing of unofficial and otherwise generally unavailable recordings by Zimmer and Mancina entitled "Follow Your Dreams...collaboration".
- Follow Your Dreams was composed for the Marlboro Adventure Team campaign - this is a car rally adventure series.
- The (in progress) sequel to The Lion King is currently titled as Simba's Pride .
- Due to Hans' lengthening of his version of Circle Of Life, the opening to The Lion King was extended accordingly.
- The native European pressings of The Lion King soundtrack include the extra 'Hyena' score track, along with translated versions of the lyrics! lol.
- The Lion King soundtrack has sold more than 10 million copies in the US alone. (the average sale is 1 million and blockbusters 10 million)
- The Lion King soundtrack was the 10th most popular title in 1995, in the US.
- The longest track would have to be from K2 at over 27 minutes!
- Hans is linked to Enya in more ways than one, grin. They both contributed lovely music to Green Card; they also contributed to Terry Reid's 'The Driver'!
- There is a composer called Trevor Jones (Last of The Mohicans), but Trevor Horn is a mega producer in the music world.
- Horn was the backbone of The Buggles, formed with keyboard player Geoff Downes. They teamed with Bruce Wooley, Thomas Dolby and Hans, in 1979 to form the band Camera Club, which came to be commonly known as The Buggles.
- Zimmer recently has worked with Tony Scott 4 times, John Badham 3 times, Ridley Scott 3 times, Penny Marshall 3 times, Dan Ireland 3 times, Barry Levinson 2 times, both Billie August and Nic Roeg twice.
- There's a pic of Zimmer conductor/composer Shirley Walker, who co-composed Chicago Joe and The Showgirl.
- Zimmer was synthesizer programmer for Shirley Walker on the projects Memoirs of an Invisible Man and Batman : Mask of the Phantasm; and similarly helped James Newton-Howard on Waterworld, who returned the favour on The Rock and previously on Radio Flyer.
- Session players include verified celebrity offspring like Kyle Eastwood (son of Clint) - bass on Regarding Henry.
- Pacific Heights orchestrator - Steve Bartek, has a score to the lil movie The Reluctant Hitman - starring Jason Priestley. Steve is well known for orchestrating Elfman, and dark scores.
- Apart from continually scoring the brilliant Chicago Hope, Jeff Rona also scores the TV Series Profiler, Homicide, and High Incident.
- Jeff is also responsible for compiling most of Hans' scores for CD; Hans said most of the scores on CD would be shorter if he were to do it...thanks Jeff!
- Hans was first assigned to fully score White Squall - but was busy; Jeff has an extensive background as an assistant keyboardist, and scorer - for Mark Isham, Basil Poledouris, Brian Eno (U2 fame) and several others. Recommended
- Powaqqatsi (Philip Glass).
- He played guitar for Jeff Rona on an episode of Profiler, when there weren't any other guirarists around.
- The score to The Ghost And The Darkness by Jerry Goldsmith was mixed at Media Ventures.
- There is an inherent rivalry with James Horner, lol. Why does that 'horn' get all the major assignments? (He happens to have the same agent...grin) ...well, good music is good music, no matter where it comes from!
