This is phenominal... I always thought I was the only one who saw Zimmer's brilliance
Its nice to see such a THOROUGH web site!!!

I've always been drawn to music that pulls at my emotions...
Rain Man started my Zimmer collection... followed by Black Rain and Days of Thunder
I really wish he'd release a composite film score bundle.

On a side note: For those interested in powerful emotional music also check out Vangelis' score to the film 1492 (Ridley Scott) and The Bounty.

(I wish Vangelis had Zimmer's consistency for brilliance...unfortunately Vangelis only seems to shine when he writes music about ships or the ocean!)

I first heard of Hans Zimmer when I bought the soundtrack to the film Rainman. Since then, I have come to respect him as one of the greatest composers that ever lived. I have forced several of my friends to see certain movies merely because Hans Zimmer scored them. His music is really unlike any other I've ever heard. I was so delighted to see this page. I didn't think anyone but me even knew of this guy's existance. I'm still building my collection, so if anyone has any input as to which are his best scores to buy (as if he'd ever write a bad one) please let me know! Thanks.

It is great having this page and especially this composer! I have followed Zimmer since about 1990 when I "discovered" A World Apart and Rain Man and I haven't looked back since. Like many of you I thought I was the only Zimmer.fan on the planet! By the way: His latest scoring efforts are Something To Talk About and a film called Muppet Treasure Island.

It's a good thing you named this place the Hans Zimmer Worship Page: he is nothing less than the God of Living Composers! Anyone who can write that LK score AND the main theme for "The Critic" (an animated series, now canceled [again] :-( ) will always have my praise. Let us give thanks to the god!

I didn't get into Hans Zimmer until The Lion King. But I instantly recognized his name on the Crimson Tide movie poster. Crimson Tide is one soundtrack I can't get enough of! Looking at the history you all have in here, it appears that Hans Zimmer has a composing background to rival the magnificent, awesome John Williams! I had no idea!

Zimmer is a god... no other explenation for it... IMHO, his TLK score in its totality ranks way over any other score in both emotion and power. Greatest travisty of all is Disney's 44minutes or less policy on their soundtracks.
True, many other composers do have power and insight--Williams, Horner, Goldsmith, and so on... but for a total package, Zimmer's TLK is #1... IMHO.

Hi ! I'm just one of the many people greatly inspired by Zimmer's masterpieces and what really got me sitting up and saying "Who's this guy, he's great!" was " the walk home " from cool runnings. by the way the latest soundtrack to Zimmer's credits is the film "9 Months". Zimmer's score for the Power of One is fantastic. After first hearing it 3 years ago on a high school retreat, I was deeply touched. I still make it a habit to listen to the soundtrack (in particular, The Funeral Song), a few times a month - just to reflect. Thank you, Mr Zimmer!

A couple of years back I feel in love with the movie, "The Power of One." I wasn't exactly sure at that moment what I really liked about it. Granted, it is a wonderful movie, but something else made it amazing! I soon realized that the music was what drew me into a strong affection for the movie. The moving chords, the pulsing rhythms, and moody dynamics created warm emotions and sent goosebumps down my arms. Since then, I've been a fan of Zimmer's music. "The Lion King" score was great! But my current favorite is "Crimson Tide." I give it two thumbs up.

Hans Zimmer first struck my ear as a brilliant artist the first time i saw the lion king. Unfortunately, I had no idea what soundtracks he composed for. Whenever new movies came out, I always scanned the brief credit screens at the end of tv commercials and whenever Hans Zimmer caught my eye, i went out and saw the movie. I can safely say that Hans Zimmer did a brilliant job on the movies "Crimson Tide" and "Nine Months" as well. By the way, this is a wonderful page. I know I'll link this one to my home page once i get it up.

Hans is one versatile and talented cat. I met him last year through my client and good friend Lebo M. I spent many hours in Hans' Santa Monica studio with Jay Rifkin, Lebo and JVT mixing the tracks for Rhythm of the Pride Lands. Any of your who dig Hans' music should buy this album. The music is deeply moving -- brilliantly executed. The album is on Walt Disney Records and (unfortunatley!!) not listed under Lebo's name. Just look for the Lion King score, and you should find Rythms right next to it.
Interesting tidbit: Lebo is a black South African who grew up under apartheid rule. He pretty distrusting of white folks until he came to the US. He told me that when he met Hans, it was the first time that he really connected with a white person. Musta been their mutual love of music....

Hello everyone! I am an aspiring film composer who is studying Commercial Music with an emphasis in composition and arranging at Belmont University in Nashville. I am nineteen years old and appreciate any advice from any of you out there that could help point me in the right direction. I have a lot to learn and am working hard to become a good musician (although we all know that most of that comes from within). I have had the oppurtunity to compose music for a couple of commercials for the Family Channel and be involved with people back in my hometown area of Tidewater, VA in other various projects. I respect the works of all creative musicians, especially such creations of film composers. I am a big fan of Hans Zimmer and hope one day to meet him. Well, enough said...please write me with any advice or comments. Sincerely,

Mark T. Williams

HZ is without doubt one of the master film composers. The goosepumps and the shivers down the spine whilst watching TLK are the best indicators of the goal being achieved, viz. creating music which reflect the moods and atmosphere of the movie.

The question is: Is he better that other Disney composers like Ashman/Menken and Washington/Harline ??

To all of you aspiring film composers out there, I have seen the industry and have learned a lot about the people in the music business. It is extremely competitive and I learn something new everyday. Various people I have worked with are all amateur composers compared to the likes of Hans Zimmer, however, they are all linked to major composers and giant, Hollywood producers and directors. My advice to people is to keep writing music and make as many contacts as possible. Persistence goes a long way. Give me an E-mail if you need help in writing or need some management that will give you some work.

After seeing The Lion King for the 12th time I realised something: I am a Zimmer fan! After checking up on his previous work it became apparent that I've been a fan for longer than I thought. As I am an avid soundtrack collector (without any of Zimmer's I'm ashamed to say), I'll surely be investing in a couple of Zimmers very soon.

Happy listening!

I agree with Brian's point of view of the Lion King! To me, it is the best musical performance of an animation film I have experienced.
I love the mystical and powerful musical expressions throughout the composition. One can actually feel Simba's pain when his father is murdered, feel the tension and excitement of the battle between Simba and Scar, and my favorite, when Simba takes his place as King of Pride Rock. I don't think there will ever be a recording so magnificent as The Lion King. I praise Zimmerman for his spectacular work and I hope that in the future there will be many more soundtracks composed by him. Thanks!!!

Hanz Zimmer by far my favourite modern day film composer! It is getting to the stage that I might decide to go and see a film just because he wrote the soundtrack! Yesterday I saw Crimson Tide for the first time - wonderful film - wonderful soundtrack! I think my favourite Zimmer track has to be 'THE WALK HOME' on the Cool Runnings soundtrack, quite brilliant!

The brilliance of some of Zimmer's earliest work: e.g. "First Born", one track from which can be found on certain BBC compilation albums.
Plus the fact that the score for "Regarding Henry", despite being a replacement at short notice for George Delerue's score, is in fact the greatest piece of music ever written for film.

I've just skimmed through the "complete filmography" section, and, for the most complete of completists, also check out Hans' contribution to "Where Sleeping Dogs Lie" (c.1992) and "Lifepod" (c.1991), both co-composed with Mark Mancina. Looking at these two, plus the score for "Space Rangers", I detect a kinda mentor theme here. (Could it not be unlike Hans' earlier days with Stanley Meyers, or like Hans' relation now with Nick Glennie-Smith? He's quite a philanthropist...There are some weird (albeit cool) credits for Zimmer, too: check out Paul Hardcastle's thanks to him for lending him keyboards (on the back of the single, "The Wizard"). And, AND - this is important for British fans of Zimmer - did you know that he co-composed the music for "Going For Gold"? Can we really take him seriously, anymore? (And, yes, I have actually watched the show in order to get this information. I'm sorry. I'll go now, then...).

Nothing much, except that i am a huge fan of his works and have a complete set of his works. I started of with Backdraft which i still think is the number one soundtrack he has ever made ! But besides that i do not usually compare his soundtracks to each other, because every soundtrack is very different from the others which is exactly what i like about him: his diversity ! He has proven that he masters all kinds of musical instruments and orchestrars, so briely said he never produces monotone and, well, boring music as many composers has a tendency to do. One of those is by my oppinion James Horner, i mean every time you see a movie with his movie it is either a variation of the Aliens theme or Willow theme (the only two of his work that IS great). Am i the only one with these sentiments ?

Hanz Zimmer is obviously a very gifted composer. I would say that he second only to, if not equal to, John Williams. Hi s work in Crimson Tide and The Lion King was a stroke of pure genius. I have heard that he is also doing the score for the upcoming movie The Saint. The music in the preview of this is the same as the music for Crimson Tide. If anyone knows anything about this, please e-m@il me @ lema@ismi.net, I would very much appreciate some info on this. Thank you,

With the outbreak of the Lion King, I was only 13 years old. Strange as it was, for some reason I wanted the Lion King Soundtrack had a very good tune to it. I enjoyed the killing of Simba's father, and the returning of Simba's father in the clouds. The music rolling at that time was breathtaking. I bought the track and enjoyed it so on. Later arrived Crimson Tide. And later, The Rock. All three soundtracks having a mysterious catch to them. It was Hans Zimmer! This guy is good, and I love the way he creates the music with digital synthisizers and other pieces of technology. My favorite composer was John Williams. Now it's Hans Zimmer!

I will be graduating with a Bachelors of Arts in Music(Flute Performance), June 1, 1997. I've been playing flute for 15 yrs. My strongest area is composing music. My goal is to compose for films, could you have your staff send information about film-scoring. How do you break into the business of film-scoring. Zimmer I just want to tell you the soundtrack from LION KING is beautiful.

Hans Zimmer is the god of composing!! I would give my soul to meet him... His style should be the standard that all composers should go by. In my personal opinion his best sound track is The Rock. I can live off of that sound track....Thganks for your time

Hi fellow fans!

Hans Zimmer is simply the greatest composer in Hollywood. His music turns a dull movie into a great one, and over the last five years I've been looking out for his name in the movie credtis. There aren't many other composers that manage to create wonderful and melancholic tunes that fits perfect into the movie like Hans Zimmer. Favourite soundtrack; Crimson Tide.

Would any other Hans Zimmer fans like to see the "Thelma and Louise" soundtrack released and this time have it include Hans Zimmer's score? It really irritated when I bought the CD and found out that it only had a "bonus" track, at the very end, with one short edited version of HZ music. Gee, didn't something similar happen to Danny Elfman and the original Batman soundtrack...they released it first with Prince's music and then released a soundtrack with Danny Elfman's score?? In any case, this is one fan who enjoyed Hans Zimmers music from Thelma and Louise and would like to have it available on CD.

I need no other music aside from those 3 scores, and Backdraft. Like I said, those 4 scores are all I need to be happy... as long as I have Millenium, The Lion King, The Rock, etc... ahh well I guess I'm just another hopelessly devoted Zimmer Fan!

Thanks Hans, for the Music and the Inspiration.

I have rcently heard that H. Zimmer can be compared with Mozart, but this is not true. Compared with Zimmer Mozart is nothing. There was only one Classic Composer of the same genius like H. Zimmer: Richard Strauþ. The last five minutes of the K2 soundtrack really sound like the classical masterpiece "Also sprach Zarathustra". There is however a relation with Mozart's "Ave Verum Corpus" in TLK and House of the Spirits (piano part after LaPaloma)sountrack. Everytime I listen to calssical music, or to the works of James Horner, which are great as well (Glory...) and then play e.g. The Rock track 8, or Backdraft 7, 8 it seems that this music blows all other music away. H. Zimmer is for sure the greatest composer of he past, the present and I really do hope that sometimes there will be a composers like him in future times again.
I would like to hear a Zimmer soundtrack about a Science fiction movie or a Reqiem composed By Zimmer.
The Zimmer Requiem, I'm sue would be the best music in the history of man. - with this choral passage from Backdraft 7...

I've been following film music for years. Ithink I discovered Hans Zimmer with the theme from RAIN MAN but the first score I owned was BACKDRAFT. Then I tried to get more infos and of course scores made by, yes one of the most gifted, atmospheric and melodic film composers. Probably my favourite Zimmer score is BLACK RAIN, competing with CRIMSON TIDE, which made that Tony Scott film much superior. I must fight all sort of dudes that don't enjoy him around here and anyway being a film score collector in Romania it's not easy. So I add here the list of all his scores I own hoping one of the more generous Zimmer fans worldwide could help me enlarge or complete my collection.
A WORLD APART / BACKDRAFT / BLACK RAIN / BROKEN ARROW / DRIVING MISS DAISY-ONLY THE MAIN THEME / DROP ZONE / THE LION KING / PACIFIC HEIGHTS / POINT OF NO RETURN / RAIN MAN-ONLY THE THEME / THE ROCK /
I gathered until now more than 200 soundtracks, mostly film scores cos that's the real thing, not the songs they tape and re-tape to sell more albums. My other favourite composers are Danny Elfman, Ennio Morricone-mostly his early work, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith but as well one of my all time favourites is Mike Oldfield's music for THE KILLING FIELDS all the work John Carpenter had done to create more atmosphere and supense to his films. But as I'm writing here I must admit that most often I play my Hans Zimmer tapes. Yes, I record tapes, I don't have any scores on cd's 'cos that would be a major excentricity here. So I leave here my address, maybe some of the old-fashioned guys that are still writing letters would like to get in touch with me. As for Hans Zimmer music, any tapes sent to me would be most appreciated by a true film music freak.
ALIN LUDU DUMBRAVA / str.Horia nr.63 / BRASOV 2200 / ROMANIA.
You can get in touch with me at any of the e-mail addresses above
and I'd love to hear from some devoted fans around the globe. As for my wishes for HANS ZIMMER I hope he would compose a score for a James Bond movie- a must for his incredible capability of scoring action pieces and he's on my dream list to score my movie I still hope I'll make in one of my most schizoid wishes.
Keep Rockin' yours, ALIN LUDU DUMBRAVA, 12.06.1997.

I had no idea that there was this great amount of people that listen to his music. I for one cannot get enough of the music. I have four Cd's composed by Mr. Zimmer, and four more on my '97 christmas list. Mr. Zimmer is a very talented composer who can write an outstanding piece of music. I think I would have to say that his best works are the Rock and the Lion King.

The first time I heard Maestro Zimmer was on Lion King. The first time I was floored by him was Crimson Tide. I can't get enough of the soundtrack. I used to get home from a party and have my nightcap with the soundtrack cranked up. Great dreams!!! But, what did he do with "The Rock"? It was leftovers & the same themes with a few inverted passages. No matter, still great dreams. Greatest movie scores: Gone With the Wind, Jaws, Star Wars --- years of drought and then Crimson Tide.

The ambient music adds quite the artistic appeal to the project. I am greatly thankful that one could come up with such ingenious
creations. I hope that his future works will rival his almost
insurmountable tasks of the past, and lead us to know there are
no limits to the potential of one who strives to make music worth listening to. He pulls and tugs at our attention for brief and concise moments of time, just enough to leave a lasting impression. People like myself need these times to reflect on our very spiritual nature, and he has helped us to unlock it, and notice it with full force what it really means. I hope that in the future, other masterpieces may be created by him to provoke our very nature, and place our very deepest beliefs high up on a pedistal to be examined. You never grow out of needing such inspiration and imagination that can be given by this genius of modern music.
