Entry for January 23, 2009
Hello again, its newsletter time:
So what's the latest you ask? Well, let's see. We still have a bit going on (with this being started out in the sun), and quite a few things have happened in the last 2 months. Lots of blu movies for one thing. I popped out again to Australia, Vanuatu, and the USA after getting my visa finally (again), the week before our 9th anniversary. Yes, we're still here and heading into our big 10th this year, and we're stoked. As usual, I try to take time out to observe the world out there and endeavor to bring back some nice enhancements for our homes here. It's been a long time coming since 2003-2004. 2008 highlights include the introduction of the emerging high definition Blu-ray format along with PS3 games and of course Digicel phones and services. Some of the annual stats include adding: 1437 discs (27 a week) comprised of 99 games (39 of them being PS3 in 6 months), 156 HD DVDs (great closeout prices and bonus giveaways on those - over 300 still), 359 Blu-ray discs (now totaling over 700), and 234 members. On the hardware side, the prices of Xbox 360 consoles dropped down to a record low $700. Added to the mix are Blu-ray players at $900 and iPhones to order. And don't forget PS3 and Wii consoles. The one new challenge for this year is the increase in import duty to 32% on pretty much all our products - however, we will NOT be raising our rental rate even with the depreciation of the Fiji dollar against the US dollar. It remains the SAME since 1999. The current promotion on Digicel handsets are quite generous starting at $29, and includes $15 credit and free texting for 30 days.* The higher end handsets start at $89 and include free internet for 30 days, an autographed Serevi rugby ball and double credit to start you off. Is this the time to go HD? YES. With the US switching to all digital TV shortly, along with FijiTV, supply and prices of HD displays will be more attractive - jump in at your preferred price point. As far as movies go, most movies are becoming available on Blu-ray disc, which is the market format for HD on disc. Yes, you will need a Blu-ray player or PS3 to play them, and YES, they are region coded - choose Region A, and Region 1 for our market. Titles are readily available to rent compared to DVD, with much higher quality AND selection for your viewing enjoyment. So, will we have specials on our products and services? YES, such as free Digicel SIMS with a Top-up bonus plan. See us at the counter for something suited to your needs. By the way, we will call you for free if you have a Digicel number. Treat yourself to a $200 HD+DVD disc rebate when you top up your rental account with $200. For those using the cafe door as an exit, please press the button near the handle on the wall. As for releases, what a great way to cap off 2008 with 24: Redemption, World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (in stock at $100), The Dark Knight (BRDs' 1st million seller) just to name a few highlights. And just to zip to the here and now, Obama-mania has landed, with the first of 2 documentaries, and the long awaited Cashmere Mafia in stock as part of the 72 titles which arrived Tuesday. The Oscars nominations have just been announced with 12 of them available in store with more to come. A full annual list with disc availability will be sent separately. With 331 discs already in, 2009 will be really cool. 10 years from partying like it's 1999! We open 9am-7pm Mon-Sat, and 10am-2pm Sundays and Public Holidays. http://www.iFiji.com Your one original source of DVDs, 360, PS3, Blu-ray, games, hi def, mobile phones, Apple, iTunes!
